Sicilian Roots: How Real Places Shaped the Atmosphere of Remothered

At Stormind Games, the identity of a project often begins with the places that inspire it.

For Remothered, this foundation emerged from Sicily, a land where incredible spaces and layered landscapes carry a quiet tension capable of influencing how a story takes shape. These environments offered the emotional ground on which the tone of the saga could grow.

During the early research phase, we explored locations that reveal their character through silence and stillness. Certain places hold a presence that becomes clear only when you spend time observing how light settles on old surfaces or how time seems to gather in forgotten corners. These impressions guided our approach to atmosphere inside the studio, helping us understand how real environments can shape the emotional direction of a game.

As part of this exploration, we documented the process to show how these places influenced our work.

A look at the real Sicily behind Red Nun’s Legacy.

The video presents the landscapes that inspired the project and explains how their qualities informed our choices in terms of mood, pacing, and visual language.

Retracing these locations revealed elements that later became part of the world of Remothered. The architecture of abandoned structures, the texture of weathered materials, and the sense of suspended time found in certain areas all contributed to the atmosphere we wanted to convey. These details helped us shape environments capable of creating anticipation through their own character.

Inside the studio, this research influenced both the visual and narrative direction. Artists focused on how to translate the weight of these spaces into the game’s environments, while writers explored how these impressions could support the emotional journey of the story. The goal was to allow the setting to become an active part of the experience, not just a backdrop.

Sicily offered a foundation that allowed the tone of Remothered to take form. Its landscapes provided a reference for atmosphere, its structures inspired the way tension emerges, and its unique sense of suspended time helped define the identity of the project.
